In January 2017, the Rhode Island STEAM Center received funding from the van Beuren Charitable Foundation to develop Computer Science (CS) Education Standards for Rhode Island.  The STEAM Center organized and convened an Advisory Committee composed of Rhode Islanders from across the state to create CS standards that align with recent national efforts.

You are invited to participate in a review of the first draft of the Computer Science Education Standards before they are presented to the Board of Education.  We will hold an introductory meeting on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm.  At this meeting we will provide context, describe our year-long development process, discuss the Standards Checklist, and review the  procedures for comments.  Members of the Advisory Committee will be available for questions.  You will also be given access to the Draft Standards through Google.

We are reaching out to teachers, principals, district administrators, superintendents, and other important stakeholders to collect relevant feedback that reflect different perspectives.  You do not have to be a computer science expert to participate.  We need reviewers who can critique the newly-developed standards for clarity, cohesion, and focus.

Computer science education has moved forward so much in the last two years.  I hope you can join us to be part of this important work.
